Frequently Asked Questions for UNLV Graduate Internship Positions
The following information is intended to answer several of your
questions.

| SALARY: | You will receive $10,000 over an 11 month period each year. Your contract will start each year on July 1st and end on May 31st. You are not under contract during the month of June. You will be paid at the end of each month. Federal taxes will be taken out of these amounts. In addition to your stipend, your contract will cover 12 graduate tuition credits ( 6 Fall and 6 Spring) per year (currently $103.50 per credit).

Tuition costs are subject to yearly changes. Check with the UNLV Bursar's Office for the current and future costs.

| STUDENT HEALTH FEES: | $20 a semester.
Enables you to be evaluated and treated at the UNLV Student
Health Center at no cost. Prescriptions and any extra services
(lab work, x-ray, medications etc.) are extra. It is recommended
that graduate students obtain additional health insurance.

| HEALTH INSURANCE: | Optional health insurance is available for graduate students enrolled in six or more credits. This gives you coverage for any illness or injury. Cost is about $300 a semester. | ARRIVAL DATE : | You should arrive in Las Vegas the first week in July, before the start of the 3rd session of summer school.

| SUMMER SCHOOL: | The 3rd session of
summer school starts every year in early July. You should
plan on taking at least one summer school class during the
3rd session.

| OBTAIN A DEGREE: | You have two years to complete a graduate degree at UNLV.
|
| DEGREES AVAILABLE: | M.S. of Kinesiology /Emphasis
in Biomechanics, Measurement and Evaluation, Exercise Physiology,
Motor Learning / Motor Control, and Sports Medicine.

| TEACHING: | Is not required for any graduate
intern. You can contact the undergraduate curriculum director
upon your arrival if you are interested in helping teach
a class or lab. You might be able to receive graduate credit
for teaching.

| RESEARCH: | Is not required for any graduate
intern. It is possible to obtain graduate credit for research.
Contact your advisor upon your arrival if you are interested
in conducting or assisting in research.

| NATA CEU's: | As an ATC, you will need to obtain Continuing Educational Units (CEU's) each year. Graduate classes relating to athletic training (modalities, therapeutic exercise, etc) count toward your ceu's. A 3 credit course receives 30 CEUs (e.g., 10 CEUs are awarded for each credit hour ). As a graduate intern, UNLV does not provide funding for educational meetings. This includes NATA, District and State meetings. |
| IMMUNIZATION RECORDS: | These records must be received by UNLV prior to your enrollment. |
